Officially, this is the first entry in the East Side Kids franchise. Made in 1940, this Monogram programmer doesn't yet have the familiar chemistry of Leo Gorcey, Huntz Hall, Bobby Jordan and Sammy Morrison, but it's an interesting and fun entry. I hope this new file represents an improvement over the other version available on the Archive. * * * * * * * from Wikipedia; In 1940 producer Sam Katzman , noting the financial success of other tough-kid series, made the film East Side... favoritefavoritefavorite ( 2 reviews ) Topics: East Side Kids, Sam Katzman, Monogram Pictures, Leon Ames, Dave O'Brien, 1940, feature film
MR. MOMMARTZ, PLEAS DESCRIBE YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO CINEMA? I rarely go to the cinema. I do not like Western, nor problem movies or comedies. Sometimes, out of curiosity I enter a movie theater, but then very carefully. Sometimes I'm even excited, but then I do not have an explanation. WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT THE "JUNGE DEUTSCHE FILM"? They are old-young, they did not understand anything. HOW DID YOU STARTED? I never wanted to become a filmmaker. In 1963 I was six weeks Uganda. As an... Test filming with Eddie Constantine in Wiesbaden for the movie "Tango through Germany". For years I was looking for an actor who strives steadfastly afar. Someone who is not going for specific goal, but celebrates in a ritual way that it is about something that concerns everyone. Someone who makes a mark, provoking as a performance artist and takes the liberty to swim against the current. In April 1979, I found myself sitting next to Eddie Constantine. I told him about the project. He... Topics: Lutz Mommartz, German experimental Cinema, Eddie Constantine, Wiesbaden, German experimental...

A selection of some of the earliest silent films. They are unidentified, but the first, The Car, looks like it came from Melies while the second, The Derby, is probably from the Lumiere Brothers. There is a paper print from Edison, and a very telling shot of Tsar Nicholas and entourage parading in front of the peasants in 1911. Rudyard Kipling's short story "Toomai of the Elephants" comes to life in this exciting little movie from Sir Alexander Korda. The original material has been embroidered upon, but the changes from Kipling, who had died in 1936, actually give the slight tale more punch without destroying its integrity. Location shooting, personally granted by the Maharaja of Mysore on his private lands, gives a veracity to the film which no studio back lot could equal. A stick figure fictional biography of Joseph Goebbels, the infamous reich minister for propaganda 1933-45. Little attempt is made to expose the real horrors of Nazism or Goebbels' hate-driven personality. Instead it's more likely to induce giggles thanks to Wolfgang Zilzer's ham-fisted performance in the title role, which portrays Goebbles as little worse than a liar and vindictive rejected lover who abuses power.
